Project Information

BExIS is the information system for the Biodiversity Exploratories project.

Project Member

As a project member you need to create an account and login to BExIS in order to get access to all functionalities. By doing this, you agree with the rules of procedure (Geschäftsordnung) including a data policy. The rules of procedure document is provided to the project leaders which are responsible to circulate them to their team members. The document can also be accessed in the system.

Guest

As a guest you need to create an account and login to BExIS. You will get access to all metadata of the provided datasets and publications. You won't get access to data itself. Please consider to use the Open Data option of BExIS.

Open Data

The Open Data are freely available. There is no need to create an account in the system or to login. In order to download publicly available data you need to confirm a dedicated data agreement.

DATA AGREEMENT
General information
The Biodiversity Exploratories (BE) are a research project funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemenischaft (DFG Priority Program 1374). It serves as a research platform for all biodiversity and ecosystem research groups of Germany. This data agreement refers to all datasets collected or produced by all researchers participating in the DFG Priority Program 1374. These data sets are managed within the BExIS platform. In this agreement, we refer to the scientists that originally collected or produced the data as data suppliers. The principle investigator of the project in which this took place plus optionally further people (e.g., the data suppliers or a subset thereof, as listed in BExIS) are referred to as data owners.

License
This dataset is made publicly available under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial License (CC-BY-NC). Information about this license is available on http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/. Commercial use of data is not allowed, unless written consent of the BE has been obtained.

Co-authorship and acknowledgement of original data suppliers
In all cases of data usage, data has to be cited appropriately. A sample citation which can be adapted to fit different citation styles is included in the metadata. If data are derived from original data, e.g., by calculation of averages or indices, the data rights of the original data are maintained and all regulations of this data agreement apply correspondingly also to derived data.
Co-authorship of the data owner and/or data supplier is appropriate and has to be offered, if the dataset contributes significantly to the main message of a scientific paper (compare, e.g., Recommendation 12 in “Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice” by the DFG). The contributions of the BE founders and administrative staff should be acknowledged as follows: “This work is based on data obtained within the DFG Priority Program 1374 ‘Infrastructure-Biodiversity-Exploratories’. We thank the staff of the three exploratories, the BE office and the BExIS team for their work in maintaining the plot and project infrastructure, and Markus Fischer, the late Elisabeth Kalko, Eduard Linsenmair, Dominik Hessenmöller, Jens Nieschulze, Daniel Prati, Ingo Schöning, François Buscot, Ernst-Detlef Schulze and Wolfgang W. Weisser for their role in setting up the Biodiversity Exploratories project.”

Limitation of liability
Every effort has been made by the data management team of the BE to ensure the quality of the data. However, data management team/ BE / data supplier can neither be held liable for any error or omission in the datasets nor for any direct, indirect or consequential damages arising from the use thereof. Users are requested to report any errors or deficiencies directly to the data management team of BE.

Cookies

BEXIS 2 uses persistent cookies to differentiate between new and logged in user.

By default, persistent cookies and web measurement technologies are automatically used via the web browser, which one is used by our BEXIS 2.

 

Information collected by Registration

When you register to the application for the first time, your information collects by the BEXIS 2 to know you later as a valid user. This information links you also with a dataset, which one you create or you are its owner and could be used to contact or identify you by the administrator or other BEXIS 2 users, that you share your information with them.

 

Information collected by define a Metadata

Once you create a dataset, depends on the Metadata you choose, BEXIS 2 provides a form that let you collect information related to the dataset. The fields in a form are either optional or mandatory. BEXIS 2 uses this information to provide more accurate and detailed search.

 

Information collected by uploading data

Once you upload data to a dataset, you or an administrator via administrator part, could control access of other users or groups to your data. Other users or groups could allow or deny view, download, and update or upload to your primary data, deleting your dataset or to give permission to other users or groups.

 

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page.

We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after we post any modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.
